Genuine bottled tradition, Xoriguer is one of the few distilleries in the world which continues distilling using traditional methods and its gin is recognized as being “Protected Geographical Indication” “Mahon Gin”.
Mahon Gin, born 300 years ago in the Port of Mahon, in Menorca, was probably the first gin distilled in the Mediterranean. Requests of British and Dutch sailors in the local taverns encouraged Minorcan master craftsmen to initiate the distillation, creating in 1736 the unique recipe of Mahon Gin which Miguel Pons Justo, founder of our distillery, has kept under the name of ‘Xoriguer Mahon Gin’ until the present day.
The peculiarity of our gin and its unique character is based on a traditional distillation of high-quality vinic alcohol with hand-selected juniper berries from the Catalan Pyrenees in 200-year-old cooper stills that require local firewood from the clearance and maintenance of Menorca forests, fresh spring water from Mahon and sea water as coolant. All them together define the personality of our gin, as well as we keep using the same traditional bottle, the design of which hasn’t changed since 1736.
In the Xoriguer Distillery we love the tradition.
