Šiauliai District: meet to explore, meet to taste, meet to create

At Balttour 2026, the Šiauliai District Tourism and Business Information Centre will highlight two signature elements of the region: the world-famous Hill of Crosses, a unique symbol of Lithuanian spirituality and resilience, and the district’s rich beekeeping heritage, reflected in educational acitivities and high-quality local products. Visitors will learn about the “Busy Bee” project, which promotes sustainability and community engagement, as well as explore locally produced honey, mead, beeswax goods, and other traditional bee-based products. Alongside these core highlights, the stand will also briefly showcase selected cultural and nature-focused attractions and artisan workshops, giving visitors a concise yet authentic insight into the landscapes, heritage, and living traditions of Šiauliai District.

At Balttour 2026, visitors will explore the rich cultural, natural, and historical offerings of Šiauliai District, one of Lithuania’s most vibrant and diverse regions. The highlight is the world-famous Hill of Crosses, a sacred site and symbol of faith, resilience, and Lithuanian heritage.

Šiauliai District offers a diverse range of attractions for families, cultural and nature enthusiasts. At Dargaičiai Zoo, visitors can explore hands-on tours, join educational activities, and experience aerial sightseeing adventures - it is Lithuania’s largest alpaca farm with over 90 alpacas and a variety of other animals. Kurtuvėnai is known not only for its beautiful natural surroundings, but also for its manor complex with a historic park and stables, and for its annual Shrove Tuesday traditions featuring colorful masks and folk customs.

Discover Naisiai, a hidden gem in Lithuania under the open sky. The town is home to the extraordinary Museum of Baltic Gods, featuring over 50 oak sculptures of ancient deities, as well as unique attractions such as the Museum of Bird Nesting Boxes and the Museum of Baltic Herbs. Visitors can get to know the town through guided tours and educational activities, or even better - by tasting the local flavors. Naisiai is also renowned for its Naisiai Summer Festival, held in the impressive Baltic Arena, which attracts visitors from across Lithuania and neighboring countries and offers educational activities, traditional dances, and cultural events for audiences of all ages.

In the capital of Šiauliai District, Kuršėnai, visitors are welcomed by the impressive 262-meter pedestrian bridge and the historic Kuršėnai Manor, where they can sample the renowned Kuršėnai Roll Cake, a true culinary hallmark and a signature symbol of the region. The city also offers pottery workshops and the opportunity to observe local artisans at work, providing visitors with an intimate experience of the district’s long-standing ceramic traditions.

Šiauliai District invites visitors to explore thematic tourism routes that showcase the region’s heritage. The “Busy Bee” connects Lithuania and Latvia, highlighting the area’s beekeeping traditions and promoting sustainable travel. The “Way of Grace” (Via Gratiarum), a five-year partnership between four municipalities (Raseiniai, Kelmė, Šiauliai District, and the City of Šiauliai), links more than 30 sacred, cultural, and natural sites. Together, these routes offer visitors the opportunity to rediscover regional traditions and religious tourism, while providing experiences tailored to the diverse interests and preferences of different travelers.

At the Šiauliai District stand, visitors can explore the attractions mentioned above and receive information on the most unique accommodations and local dining experiences, where tasting the region’s cuisine provides an authentic introduction to the area. They will also have the opportunity to sample honey, mead, fresh juices, and traditional pastries, and to take part in interactive workshops such as beeswax candle making.
The Šiauliai District Tourism and Business Information Centre plays a key role in promoting tourism, culture, and local entrepreneurship in the region. By working closely with local businesses, artisans, and community partners, we create authentic and engaging experiences for visitors. The Centre develops tourism routes that highlight the area’s cultural, historical, and natural heritage, while supporting sustainable and family-friendly tourism.
